Sam's story
Here is the story he told me... When Sam was 21 he used to do a lot of things for fun. He was adventurous and enjoyed having fun. What Sam like best though was to ride his motorcycle around a trotting race track…in the middle of the night. Who can blame him. It was fun. Unfortunately for Sam the local police happened to be near by and caught him in the act of having fun. Sam spent Saturday and Sunday night in the cells. Come Monday morning it was time to front the court for this misdemeanor. As you can imagine Sam was not happy. All he was doing was having fun!. The Judge wasn’t happy either. He told Sam he needed to sort himself out and even though Sam tried to tell him he was only having fun and that it didn’t hurt anyone, the judge come down hard on Sam. Sam was sentenced to two weeks in prison. As you can imagine, by now Sam was really unhappy. But things were about to get much worse for him. At the prison, a psychologist was appointed to examine Sam as the judge had kindly left on his notes that Sam was “not normal”. Now as you can imagine Sam is protesting about now. This just made it worse for him. The psychologist simply said that “yes” Sam wasn’t normal and recommended he spend time in the mental institution. Any person by now would have got angry. Sam did. According to the psychologist, he now had denial as well. Sam was sent to the local psychiatric hospital….for six months! Now here comes the bad bit… Sam was released out of the institution, and for the next 30 years was too scared to have fun. If he was seen laughing, that meant he wasn’t normal and would be put back into the institution. "I’m not normal." (No Sam, you’re just a squiggle.) All of the others aren’t normal! I think you can imagine the scar that that left on Sam’s life. Not only did they medicate him, it was made clear to him he wasn’t normal. How many people could go by 30 years to scared to laugh or have fun? Having fun is normal. If you don’t realise how serious this is for a squiggle, then go back and read the squiggle profile on the website. Sam told me told me that when he did the free shape test and found out he was a Squiggle, it all made sense to him. He also realized the judge was a Square, who simply didn’t understand Squiggles. Through the program Sam realized all of the amazing traits of a Squiggle. In fact all of the amazing traits in his life. Now I’m not going to pick on Squares but…in this case the (Square) judge probably did see Sam as not normal and through his version of the world, he thought Sam needed structure in his life. Squares just love that structure! Sam completed the program and he told me to weight lifted off his shoulders was the most amazing thing he had experienced in his life. He has designed a life that he loves. He has fun every day. People wish they could be like him and every time he sends them to kevinmayall.com so they can design their own amazing life. |
